Age UK Redbridge, Barking & Havering exists to improve and maintain the quality of life for older people living in the London borough of Redbridge, Barking & Havering. We seek to achieve this aim by:

  • Ensuring that older people have dignity, respect, choice and that their voices are heard
  • Ensuring that services are provided in a sensitive and approachable manner
  • Being a focus of advice and help for older people

We operate an Advice and Information Service which is free, independent and confidential to older people, their relatives, carers and friends. The also provide information on issues affecting older people such as welfare benefits, community care, leisure and health.  Criteria for accessing this service is over 50.

In addition, we have a social group called Di’s Diamonds, where people can meet up, make friends and do different activities toether.  For example, bowling, cinema, tea dances etc.

Citizens Advice Bureau

Barking & Dagenham Citizens Advice Bureau provides:

  • Information and advice on welfare benefits, housing, debt and money, employment, discrimination, family, consumer, tax, immigration and more
  • Information and advice on welfare benefits and debt for people experiencing mental ill health.
  • Hate crime advice, advocacy support to victims of hate crime incidents
  • Outreach Income raising clinics at 8 Childrens Centres.

All residents of Barking & Dagenham who are over 16 are eligible.

Community Resources

Community Resources provides a range of activities at the Hub including parent & children activities, English conversation classes, Family learning and personal development programmes.

We run lunch clubs on Tuesday and Wednesdays where people can enjoy a home cooked hot lunch for £1.50.  We also can provide vouchers for local Food Banks and provide a clothes bank for both adults and children.

We run a Community Café where anyone is  welcome – no need to book, just drop in.  Wednesday 13.00-14.30.  There is a small charge  (up to £2) for most workshops and there is limited crèche provision.

We have trained facilitators who offer couples and parents support including;

  • Prepare Enrich UK, a nationally known couples programme,
  • Getting Ready for Your Baby, a 4 week antenatal programme
  • Parenting courses and 1-2-1 support for parents

We also have a team of trained volunteers who can offer 1-2-1 support for people who are feeling vulnerable or isolated or who have mental health issues.

Hestia

We are a London charity, working together with adults and children in crisis to change their lives at the times when they most need support.

Hestia can offer accommodation for women experiencing domestic violence in London.

We are the largest provider of domestic abuse refuges in London and have the largest team of specialists working to combat Human Trafficking across the Capital and the South East. Across our broad range of services, we also help people find a permanent home, manage their finances, take care of their health, and access work, training or education, as well as providing emotional and practical support to help people succeed in their daily lives. HTW Counselling

HTW is a counselling agency that specialise mainly in Domestic Violence for Men, Women and Children. They also cover Anger Management and Bereavement etc..

Jewish Women’s Aid

All JWA’s services aim to enable and empower you to take back control of your life.  Services are available for anyone who identifies themselves as Jewish.

Children’s worker – individual sessions for children to help them come to terms with what they’ve seen and heard

Kiran Support Services

The Kiran Project was set up in 1990 to meet the needs of women from the Indian sub-continent experiencing domestic abuse. They are not based in Barking & Dagenham, but do offer support for residents who are from the Indian sub-continent.

The Kiran Project believes that all women and children have the right to live free from violence and the right to leave a home or relationship where the risk of such violence exits.Women experiencing domestic violence can be abused physically, emotionally, mentally, sexually or exploited financially. These abuses can arise in personal relationships as well as within extended families.

Our outreach workers provide surgeries and workshops in Barking most weeks.  Call us to find out more.

Victim Support

Victim Support support women and men within the borough who experience domestic abuse.  We also support children & young people who have witnessed or experienced domestic abuse.  

Domestic abuse can be in the form of physical, sexual, psychological, emotional and financial abuse.  We believe everyone has the right to a life free from violence.  The team are there to support you, so don’t hesitate to contact them on the number listed below.
